HANDICAPPED
PARKING AREAS
|
| ALL
State of Wisconsin PRIVATE and PUBLIC Parking Lots with 26 or more
stalls must have at least one OFFICIAL State of Wisconsin approved
handicapped parking sign. For larger lots, 2% of the total number
of stalls shall be designated for handicapped. Municipal-type buildings
should have a minimum of one handicapped stall even if it has to be
designated on a public street. Regardless of your lot size, you may
want to consider installing a handicap sign out of consideration and
goodwill. In most communities you cannot even get a building permit
unless you designate at least one handicapped stall or the proper
2% of the total stalls. |

The law guarantees all
citizens a barrier-free environment, including parking lots.
Handicapped stalls should also be wider - 12' width is required.
Handicapped pavement markings are optional, but an OFFICIAL STATE
OF WISCONSIN HANDICAPPED SIGN IS THE LAW!
THE OFFICIAL STATE OF WISCONSIN APPROVED SIGN
|
| The sign shown
above is the only State of Wisconsin approved version that is legal. |
|
HOW
TO INSTALL IT
|
| The minimum
distance from the bottom of the sign to the pavement shall be 4 feet.
Portable stands, U-Channel Post, Round and Square Posts are all acceptable
and available from Central Supply Company. |
